Women in Fire Safety: What inspired you to pursue a career in fire?

We had a fantastic day sponsoring, supporting and attending Women Talking Fire's networking event at London Build 2024.

For us, it was a no brainer to sponsor this event to support and grow this community and do our part to increase diversity in the industry we love.

It was a fantastic day that brought women together, increased the visibility of women in the fire safety industry, and celebrated the positive achievements of individuals.

Towards greater gender diversity in fire protection

The fire safety industry has long been a male-dominated field, but that narrative is changing thanks to the inspiring women stepping into the space. I

During the event, our very own Anna asked Women in Fire Safety delegates to share what makes them proud to work in the industry, highlighting themes of empowerment, representation, and community service. Here's what they had to say:

Empowering Young Women to See Fire Safety as a Career

“For many young people, especially young women, they don’t even realise that fire safety is an option. When I work in schools, I meet students who have never seen a female contractor before. They didn’t even know this was a career path they could take. Being able to encourage and empower them, to show them there are opportunities beyond traditional roles, is incredibly rewarding.”

Serving the Community and Keeping People Safe

“What makes me really proud to work in fire safety is knowing that I am serving my local community, making sure people are safe in their homes. Residents are always at the forefront of everything we do.”

Breaking Barriers and Leading the Way

“I started my fire engineering degree at university, and that was my wow moment. It made me realise that I was stepping into a field where I could truly make an impact.”

“The fact that I am a young woman in fire safety makes me proud. In my organisation, there weren’t many young women who looked like me. I want to be an inspiration to others and show them that if this is something they’re interested in, they should just go for it.”

Building A Future of Inclusion and Opportunity

The presence of women in fire safety is growing, and with it comes a shift in perception and more opportunities. By sharing their experiences, female professionals are paving the way for future generations, proving that fire safety is not just another job - it’s a meaningful and impactful career option for everyone.

Their message is clear: fire safety is a space where women belong, where they can thrive, and where they can make a real difference.
